Get to Know Dr. Ivy

We’ve been using our blog to help you get to know our Castle Rock veterinarians better. We recently started with Dr. Jeff.

This week, we’d love to share more about Dr. Ivy.

Dr. Ivy is known for building relationships

Dr. Ivy joined our team of Castle Rock veterinarians in June 2015.

We asked her, what was it that attracted her to Cherished Companions?

She was living in Iowa and wanted to move to Colorado.

When she learned about Cherished Companions, she said there was “so much” that appealed to her.

“I like that Cherished Companions puts the client first,” Dr. Ivy shares.

“They truly care about the pet families they see. I like that they practice quality medicine. And I like that they use really good equipment. All of that drew me to them.”

Dr. Ivy has had a blast building relationships with pet families.

“It’s been so fun to get to know my clients and recognize them when they walk in the door. I love building relationships with people and their pets.”

Dr. Ivy also enjoys internal medicine — those hard, complicated cases that are a big puzzle — as well as surgeries.

Dr. Ivy has always had a special place in her heart for animals

Growing up, Dr. Ivy was the animal lover in her family.

She was the one who was always trying to save the stray animals and abandoned baby birds in her neighborhood.

Dr. Ivy’s love for animals was always in the back of her head, but she hadn’t seriously considered becoming a veterinarian until after college.

She earned her undergraduate degree in teaching, which seemed practical.

Soon after graduating, though, she realized something was missing for her.

Because she had always loved animals, she decided to return to school to become a veterinarian.

She loves the daily challenges.

As she says, “I fell in love with it and still love everything about it. This is my calling.”

What to expect from Dr. Ivy

It’s important to Dr. Ivy that she’s aware of any questions you may have about your pet and what’s going on.

She wants to understand your expectations and be open and honest about anything you may have concerns about.

“I try to be friendly and be there for anything the pet owners need,” she says.

You’ll find Dr. Ivy exploring local hiking trails when she isn’t working.

Outside of work…

Dr. Ivy is a big cat lover. She grew up with cats and looks forward to adding one (or two) to her own home soon.

Dr. Ivy and her husband love to hike.

It’s one of the reasons they moved to Colorado.

They enjoy exploring local trails, as well trails up in the high country. One of her favorite hikes is the Mohawk Lakes Trail near Breckenridge.
