We’re thrilled to share that Dr. Melanie is now fully certified in veterinary ultrasound services and pet echocardiogram services.

She recently completed a two-year course through the University of Illinois.

(High five, Dr. Mel!)

Dr. Melanie’s new services are available to pet families who live in Castle Rock and across the Denver area.

We’d love to share a few ways these new certifications will help your pet family.

First, what is a veterinary ultrasound? What is a pet echocardiogram?

Chances are, if you’ve had kids, you’re familiar with ultrasounds.

A veterinary ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce images of your pet’s interior.

With a veterinary ultrasound, we can take images of your pet’s abdomen and even blood vessels.

A pet echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to produce pictures of your dog’s or cat’s heart.

Both tests give our veterinarians deeper insight into your pet’s needs.

A veterinary ultrasound and a pet echocardiogram can give our Castle Rock veterinarians a ton of useful information. It’s insight we couldn’t get from x-rays or blood tests alone.

For example, a veterinary ultrasound can help us identify very specific issues with your pet’s health.

  • If we’re worried about a foreign body in your pet, we can efficiently find it.
  • A veterinary ultrasound can tell us if your pet is having an issue with a specific organ.
  • Or, it can help us narrow down what we suspect may be an issue. This allows us to catch and treat diseases before they become serious for your pet.

If you have a cat, you know that your kitty is good at hiding pain.

A cat ultrasound can help us identify illnesses early, even if your cat may only be showing subtle signs that something is wrong.

For a beloved senior pet, a veterinary ultrasound can help with early detection of cancers.

Early detection can lead to earlier interventions and potentially better outcomes for your pet.

There are breeds of dogs — German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Schnauzers, Westies and Scotties, to name a few — that are prone to specific health issues.

A dog ultrasound can serve as a wellness scan, so we can monitor that aspect of your pet’s health and detect issues early.

Again, if we can catch health issues early, it’s possible that it may only take a change in diet or a medication to correct the issue and keep it from affecting your pet’s quality of life.

Dr. Melanie displays her veterinary ultrasound certificate.

So what can you expect from your next visit to our veterinary clinic?

If you’re already in for an appointment, these new services will offer you even more convenience.

Just as important, they’ll help ensure your pet is spending as little time as possible in pain, waiting for a diagnosis.

If we believe your pet needs a veterinary ultrasound or pet echocardiogram, we’ll consult with you first.

We want to make sure you understand why we’re recommending it and feel comfortable with it.

On the days that Dr. Melanie is in the clinic, she usually can do a veterinary ultrasound or echocardiogram almost immediately.

That way, we can quickly diagnose your pet’s issue with the bladder, kidney, liver, spleen, gastrointestinal tract, heart or something else.

And rest easy, as in the past, we’ll run the tests we need to make an accurate diagnosis…

But we won’t suggest unnecessary tests.

Our goal is to make a proper diagnosis quickly and efficiently. We don’t want to turn your cat or dog into a test subject or pincushion!
