Katie, Certified Veterinary Technician

Hometown:

Monument, CO

My Pet Family:

I adopted Kitty earlier this year in July. Kitty is almost 10 years old and is the sweetest cat I know! She has many nicknames, my favorites being: Turkey or Monkey! She loves to follow me around everywhere, and watch all my neighbors from the window  perch.

Favorite Story About My Pets:

My favorite moment with Kitty happened shortly after spraining my ankle. I ended up taking a “sick” day to recover and Kitty literally took it upon herself to watch over me. Everytime I got up, she would follow me and “yowl” at me the whole time. It was almost like she was scolding me for walking on my  hurt ankle. It was very cute and funnny to me!

When I’m Not at Cherished Companions, You’ll Find Me:

My whole family and I are major movie buffs, and we tend to watch a ton of movies. I also enjoy staying active and being outdoors, so I tend to explore many hiking trails. I also love roller coasters. The bigger and faster they are, the better! I could easily go to Elitch Gardens every day if it weren’t so expensive!

My Education:

I received my Associates of Applied Science degree from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology back in December 2013.

Career Choice:

I always knew I wanted to work with animals. What drew me to the field were my two dogs, Benji and Sugar. Sugar, who was a Golden Retriever, lived to be 17 years old, which is almost unheard of for large breed dogs. When my family adopted Benji, he already was an older dog, diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and he was given just six months to live. He lived for over seven years with hardly any struggles.

Both Benji and Sugar were around the majority of my childhood and were the very definition of unconditional love. When they passed away, approximately five years ago, I was at first devastated, but also very grateful for all they gave me. That made me determined to pay it forward and help other animals live long and healthy lives with their families.

My Role at Cherished Companions:

I am a Certified Veterinary Technician here at Cherished Companions. I am like a nurse, only I work with animals.

Greatest Thing About Working with Animals:

What I enjoy most about working with animals is getting to see each of their personalities and how happy they are once they feel better.

Favorite Compliment from a Customer:
